DUI Checkpoints: Herndon Stayed Safe This St. Patrick's Day Weekend

Six-hour of checkpoints by Herndon Police Department on Friday night.

There were some promising numbers out of last weekend's DUI enforcement in the Town of Herndon.

The Herndon Police Department released the numbers in its weekly police report.

From 9 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday, approximately 879 drivers passed through DUI and Driver's License checkpoints in the town.

"Motorists stopped for suspicion of driving while intoxicated were checked to assure that their ability to drive has not been impaired by drugs or alcohol," according to a release. "In addition to checking the sobriety of each driver, their operator’s licenses were checked to ensure compliance with the law."

And from the nearly 900 drivers, only two arrests for DUI, according to Herndon police.

There were also other summons: 2 summonses for driving on a suspended license, 6 summonses for driving with no license and 6 summonses for no license in possession.
