Brush Fire in Herndon

Update - 6:03 p.m.: Centreville Road is back open in both directions. Crews are still on the scene finishing up.

Update - 5:49 p.m.: Fairfax County says the brush fire is pretty much contained and they are checking for hot spots. They plan to be on the scene about a half an hour more. The area of the fire is about 10 acres.

Original Post: Fairfax County is working on a brush fire in a field at Centreville Road between the Dulles Toll Road and Sunrise Valley Drive in Herndon.

Police are directing traffic away from the area surrounding the fire. Drivers coming off the Dulles Toll Road are all being routed north into the Town of Herndon. The fire is in the area where Arrowbrook Centre is being developed, close to the Merrybrook House.

The National Weather Service issued a wind warning and a red flag fire warning yesterday. The mixture of warmer temperatures, high wind and low humidity makes fires more likely and more difficult to fight.
