Body of Herndon Man Who Disappeared on Delaware River Found

Anthony Del Prete went missing while tubing on the river with friends Aug. 10.

A body that washed ashore on a small Delaware River island over the weekend has been identified as a Herndon man that went missing in the area last month.

The Washington Post reported that Bucks County Coroner Joseph Campbell used dental records to identify 30-year-old Anthony Del Prete of Herndon, who reportedly fell off his inner tube in Tinicum Township, Penn., near the New Jersey border, and disappeared, during a tubing trip with 10 other friends.

Search and rescue teams had been searching the area on and off since his disappearance, but dangerously high river levels had caused the search to be suspended at least once.

Del Prete's mother told the news website NJ.com that he had recently moved to Herndon and was working for the Department of the Interior. She said he was a strong swimmer.

Del Prete's family also said they want to work with local officials on a flag-warning system on the river to help warn tubers, fishers and swimmers of the dangers when river levels get dangerously high.

At least four other people have died on the river so far this year, in similar incidents.
