UPDATED: Bank Robbery at Wells Fargo Bank in Herndon

Police have issued a tentative description of the suspect.

UPDATED with additional information at 9 p.m. Friday.

Town of Herndon Police said the Wells Fargo Bank at Elden and Alabama streets in Herndon was robbed Friday afternoon.

Witnesses reported seeing heavy police activity around the bank and crime scene tape roping off the area for hours after the incident, which occurred sometime around 2:30 p.m.

Police say the suspect jumped the counter at the bank and took cash from a teller.

The suspect was reportedly wearing a tan-colored scarf or bandana over his face. 

It is unknown if the suspect was armed.

Police described the suspect as being a black or Hispanic male, around 5'10", in his mid-to-late 20s, with curly black hair and a thin build. Police initially tweeted that the suspect was wearing a black and white down jacket at the time of the robbery, and was on foot.

A helicopter was hovering in the area looking for the suspect for some time after the incident.
