Attempted Abduction in Herndon

Police still searching for suspect who attempted to abduct a woman at about 8 p.m. on Aug. 5.

On Sunday evening, a man tried to abduct a woman in the 2400 block of Silk Court just off of Frying Pan Road in the 20171 area of Herndon, according to Fairfax County Police. 

Public Information Officer Lucy Caldwell said the 28-year-old victim had been driving in the area on Frying Pan Road around 8 p.m., heading toward Monroe Street. She stopped in the 2400 block of Silk Court and exited her vehicle. 

After the woman got out she was approached by a man holding a pistol who grabbed her and ordered her to come with him, Caldwell said. The victim screamed, the suspect let go of her and she fled.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic male with thick eyebrows, a trimmed goatee, in his mid- to late-30s with a stocky build, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, and he was wearing a wide brim, turquoise and white ball cap. 

The Fairfax County Police sent out information about the abduction this morning using the Community Emergency Alert Network. The system sends emergency alerts to subscribers based on which categories they choose.
