Armed Abduction and Robbery at Herndon Hotel

A man was lured to a Herndon hotel room by a woman on the Internet, tied up and robbed at gunpoint.

A man and woman from Maryland are in custody after luring a man to a Herndon hotel, tying him up and robbing him.

Wednesday night at 9:15 p.m., Town of Herndon Police responded to a 9-1-1 call at a Spring Street hotel. Officers arrived and responded to one of the hotel rooms, and "heard voices coming from the room," according to a statement.

According to Lt. Jim Moore, the officers announced themselves as police and a woman opened the door.

As the door opened, Moore said the officers saw an armed man in the room push another man into a closet and shut the door.

Officers said they were able to apprehend the armed man without incident, and free the man in the closet.

Upon investigation, the officers learned that the male victim had met the woman online and arranged to meet her at the hotel. When the woman arrived at the room where he was waiting, the other man pushed his way into the room with her and held the victim at gunpoint.

The male victim was tied up and held against his will, and robbed.

The man and woman have been arrested and are being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bond.

The armed man has been identified as 34-year-old Michael John Szachnitowski of Germantown, Md. He has been charged with abduction, robbery, and the use of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The woman has been identified as Hilary Sacks, 25, of Rockville, Md. She has been charged with abduction and robbery.
