'50 Means 50' on Fairfax County Parkway

Police begin stepped up enforcement of speeding and reckless driving on Fairfax County Parkway

Drivers aren’t imagining that they’re seeing more people pulled over on Fairfax County Parkway lately.

Fairfax County police have stepped up enforcement of the 50 mile per hour speed limit on Fairfax County Parkway in a program called “50 Means 50.” The two-week initiative, which began Sunday, is being supported by the Virginia State Police.

The program was created to target aggressive and reckless driving along Fairfax County Parkway, including speeding, texting while driving, following too closely, and failure to pay full time and attention.

Officers from several of the county’s district police stations as well as Virginia State Troopers have been assigned specific enforcement duties and many different police vehicles are being used, both marked and unmarked.

The “50 Means 50” enforcement program will take place every day through April 30. Organizers of the program hope to reduce the overall average speed of drivers on the Fairfax County Parkway, and reduce the number of accidents, property damage and injury occur on the parkway.
