I Support Tom Rust

Dear Fellow Herndon Voter,

On November 5th I will be voting for Tom Rust for Virginia House of Delegates.  I hope you will join me.

Tom Rust and I first met when he entered Herndon High School in 1958, when there were 550 students in the entire school and the population of Herndon was about 1,900 people.  We have been friends for over 55 years!

Tom and I served thirteen years together on the Herndon Town Council, ten of those with Tom as mayor, and I have witnessed Tom’s dedication to the citizens of Herndon and the greater Herndon area.  He is a problem solver and has always impressed me with his ability to work with other elected officials from both political parties.

Over the 55 years we have known each other I have not always agreed with every vote Tom cast and I’ve told him so.  But I always knew that Tom had used his best judgment and took my comments into account in his decisions.

Tom’s work for our community continued when he was first elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 2001.  It was Tom’s dedication and experience that prompted me to serve as his volunteer campaign treasurer from 2001 through 2008.

Since his first election as our delegate, Tom Rust has worked successfully with both Democratic and Republican governors.  He will be able to work with whoever is our next governor and Tom’s proven record of leadership in Richmond will continue to serve us well.  We need more elected officials like Tom Rust.

Please review Tom’s qualifications at www.TomRust.org.

I believe you will agree with me that Tom’s qualifications and years of service to the Herndon community and the Commonwealth of Virginia clearly show he is the best choice on November 5th to continue his dedicated work on our behalf.

Respectfully,

Richard F. Downer

P.S. Experience counts in Richmond and that is why the Washington Post has just endorsed Tom for re-election. Other independent groups supporting Tom include the Greater Herndon Fraternal Order of Police, the Fairfax Education Association, the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce, and the Northern Virginia Association of Realtors to name a few.
