Assistance League of Northern Virginia Installs New Officers

The Assistance League of Northern Virginia gives back to the community through its Weekend Food for Kids Program, Operation Hugs Program and more.

On Monday, June 11, Assistance League of Northern Virginia installed its new Board of Directors. The ceremony and luncheon took place at Dominion Virginia Power’s regional office in Herndon.

Assistance League is a nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to promoting literacy and well-being through community based programs. 

The new board of directors includes Patty Lustig, VP of Resource Development; Beth Maline, Public Relations Chair; Mary Spence, VP of Membership; Linda Shilts, President; Patty Kwapniewski, Treasurer; Beth Gilbart, Secretary; and Pat Thompson, VP of Philanthopy.

This past school year Assistance League delivered approximately 10,000 bags of food to children in Title One schools through its Weekend Food for Kids Program.  

Assistance League’s Operation School Bell New Clothing for Kids program provided clothes for 1,075 children.

Their Reading Express Program worked one-on-one with 47 children to enhance language skills and reading comprehension.

Assistance League also supports women and children who have been sexually assaulted and abused through its .
