Annual FISH Fling Gala and Fundraiser This Saturday

The 2012 FISH Fling Gala and Fundraiser, benefitting Herndon-Reston FISH, will take place this Saturday, May 19 at the Crowne Plaza Dulles Airport Hotel. 

The event will include music, dancing, games, prizes, auctions, dinner, dessert and more. Herndon-Reson FISH, which stands for Friendly Instant Sympathetic Help, is a nonprofit organization that has helped area residents during times of need since 1969. 

FISH operates a referral hotline, helping more than 100 callers each day to get the resources they need. The group has donated more than $427,000 in emergency assistance payments to help residents in need keep their heat, electricity or other necessities running. 

The group also provides round-trip rides to medical appointments for those in need, creates and distributes holiday food baskets, conducts financial planning and budgeting workshops and operates The Bargain Loft thrift store. 

Proceeds from the upcoming FISH Fling will go back to the organization to to help Herndon- and Reston-area residents who are experiencing short-term emergencies.
