A Message from the Mayor: Hurricane Sandy: Get Prepared, Stay Connected, Be Safe

How to stay connected and informed as Sandy approaches

Dear Herndon Friends and Neighbors:

The National Weather Service is now reporting that Hurricane Sandy will likely have a significant impact on the Washington DC Metropolitan area beginning on Sunday October 28th.  The impact on the Town of Herndon is uncertain at the present time, however the storm is expected to be a slow moving system with tropical storm force winds, heavy rain and possible flooding.

I, along with Town Staff, am monitoring the the situation closely and will remain in touch with the Fairfax County Office of Emergency Management (which provides emergency mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery services to the residents of Fairfax County, to include the Town), as well as the National Weather Service, which is tracking the movement of this powerful storm.

For general storm updates, please monitor local radio and television.

As the storm approaches and during the storm the Town will continue to disseminate information as we receive it, along with other helpful information via the following channels:

Town website:  www.herndon-va.gov

Facebook:  www.facebook.com/herndongov.

Additionally, Fairfax County will be posting regularly about Hurricane Sandy on the Fairfax County Emergency Blog  www.fairfaxcounty.gov/emergency/blog.
