Watermelons are Everywhere and Speed Shopping

This weekend, pick up a ripe watermelon and appliance shopping in less than a minute.

My kids have been waiting for this all year long and it’s finally here, watermelon season. This Saturday, Safeway has a one day sale on whole seedless watermelon for $2.99.  Or you can pop over to Shopper’s, Bloom or Harris Teeter thru Tuesday and snatch one for just under $4.

There’s nothing more disappointing then when you slice open this favorite fruit and it’s pale pink inside instead of a glowing red.  You may think a brighter outside color means brighter inside but I’ve found that a lighter shade of green means it stayed on the vine, out in the sun for a longer period of time.  Think about it, green bananas aren’t ripe and a cantaloupe with a green tinge is never the sweetest.

Appliance Shopping this Weekend?

Memorial Day weekend is not only a great time to buy a grill but any major appliance. I want to share a wonderful experience I had at Lowe’s this week.  On Thursday, my washing decided to give up the ghost.  It would no longer spin or drain water.  After I showered the unfinished load in the bathtub and bailed out the water, I looked to the store circulars to see what was on sale.    Sears had Kenmore on sale and Home Depot had free delivery with a $399  purchase but Lowe’s had free delivery and haul away on any appliance.  I knew this from the Lowe’s ad but my mom had just purchased a washer and refrigerator there and raved about her experience.

It took less than a minute to complete our transaction once I decided on the machine.  The nice salesman punched in our phone #, verified our address and asked if we would like it delivered the next day.  I was stunned and couldn’t speak, so he asked if Saturday morning was good. I said yes and he instructed me to just give my phone # to the cashier when we were ready to check out.  I did, she handed me my receipt, which contained all the pertinent info, and told me I would receive a call Friday night with the scheduled delivery time.  No paper to sign, except for the credit card receipt.  I didn’t have to figure out how to juggle my work schedule for delivery and I’ll be washing clothes again come Saturday.  Nice!
