Planning for the 2014 Herndon All Night Grad Party

Work is underway on the Herndon High School All Night Grad (ANG) Party for the Class of 2014.  Meetings and planning began back in August, starting the annual 10 month long planning process.

The ANG Committee, led by Committee Chairperson, Laura Medvene, meets monthly to report progress and discuss challenges. Many of the committee members have been involved with planning an all-night school-sponsored party before, so it is a matter of finding the right people to head committees and letting them run with their tasks.

If you are not familiar with All Night Grad Parties, they are , really, just what the name implies; an all night long party for the recent graduates of the high school. The parties are customarily held on the night of graduation to give the young people an alternative to parties that might allow drinking or drugs.

Activities at the party include large, blow-up games (things like human sling-shot and boxing) and a casino. There are caricature artists and airbrush tattoo stations, massages, a photo booth, money machine, jousting, and much much more. To feed the hungry graduates,  there is a lot of food! Food is served all night long with an ever-changing selection.  Prizes are given out throughout the evening—and the prizes are good ones (think iPad, headphones, televisions). And there is, of course, music.

The ANG Party at Herndon High is sponsored by the school, through the Drugs And Alcohol Free Activities (DAAFA) initiative, local business, The Herndon Community Center, Parents and friends of the school. It will be held on June 23, following the HHS graduation.

We are looking for sponsors and donations. If you have a local business and would like to help, we would love to hear from you. We can use donations of food, drinks, gift cards, and prize items. If you just want to congratulate the graduates and make sure that they have a great time, your monetary donations are always welcome. This party is not only a blast for the graduates, and keeps them safe, but it helps keep the community safe, too, by providing the graduates with  a safe  and chaperoned environment for their celebrations.

In some years there have had both an After Prom Party and an ANG Party. This year Herndon High will only host an All Night Grad Party.

If you are a Junior or Senior parent at Herndon, we would love your help! You can go to the website, www.herndonang.org for more information on how to get involved.
