PHOTOS: Downtown Herndon's Annual Sing-Along, Tree Lighting and Santa's Arrival

Herndon hosted its annual Holiday Sing-Along and Tree lighting ceremony Saturday, Dec. 7, which included the arrival of Santa Claus.

Dozens braved a cold evening in downtown Herndon Saturday, Dec. 7 to sing Christmas carols, light the Town of Herndon's tree and get a personal visit from Santa Claus himself.

The annual event, hosted by the Dulles Regional Chamber of Commerce featured the Herndon High School Madrigals, accompanied by the Herndon Brass Quintet, leading the crowd in several Christmas classics right in front of the Herndon Depot station.

"The first weekend in December is always a fun weekend in Herndon," said Mayor Lisa Merkel. "The sing-along is great for getting people in the mood, and we know everyone wants to see that tree lit and welcome Santa Claus."

As the crowd cheered once the tree became illuminated, sirens could be heard in the distance, sirens that seemed to get closer with each passing moment.

Soon red flashing lights were visible as a fire truck made its way down Lynn Street, but this truck wasn't on its way to a fire, it was merely an escort for a bearded man in a red suit.

Once Santa Claus arrived, the children in attendance wasted no time mobbing him, and he had plenty of treats for all.
