'Dress Up Herndon For the Holidays' Contest is Underway!

Love to dress up the house for the holidays? You could be a town winner.

Do you live for the time of year when you can get the house all dressed up with lights, wreaths, candles and more for the holidays?

It's that time of year again, and the town's annual "Dress Up Herndon For the Holidays" contest is already underway.

This beloved town tradition makes it worth your while to get the house all decked out for the holidays.

Go nuts with the lights, wreaths, window candles, snowmen, and Santa and reindeer figurines, and you could find yourself a winner, being recognized by the Mayor and Town Council and named to all as the best-dressed house in town.

Residents can nominate themselves or neighbors as the best-dressed holiday home in town as part of the contest. Then, volunteer judges from the town's Cultivating Community committee will drive around the evening of Monday, Dec. 16 to view all dressed-up homes and pick their winners.

"Judges will be looking for classical design, traditional themes, whimsical or creative decorations, and more," committee members said in this year's contest announcement.

Decorations on all nominated homes must be easily visible from the street, organizers said.

Contest winners will be presented on the evening of the 16th with a festive sign, suitable for display. Winners will also be recognized by Mayor Lisa C. Merkel and the Herndon Town Council at the Jan. 14, 2014 public meeting.

The contest is open to all Town of Herndon residents. Nominations should be sent by Friday, Dec. 13, by email to information@herndon-va.gov or by calling 703-435-6800 ext. 2084.
