This Year's Holiday Homes Tour Has New Feature

Organizers have added a new feature to the tour this year they say the public has been requesting.

It's almost that time of year again—time for the Holiday Home Tour in Herndon.

A beloved annual tradition, this year's tour will have one added convenience that organizers say people have been requesting for a while—walkability.

Tour-goers will be able to walk from one home on the tour to the next as they admire all the holiday cheer and hospitality.

"All the homes are located within a few-block region of historic downtown Herndon," said one of the tour's organizers, Diane D'Amico.

Tour-goers can park their car at one of the homes and walk to the rest, or bicyclists can chain up their bike at Green Lizard Cycling in downtown by the Depot and walk from there as well.

This Year's Homes

There are five homes on the tour this year, ranging from turn-of-the-20th-century to practically brand-new.

810 Elden Street ~ Home of Jean & Eric Gibson

A beautiful brick home built in the American Foursquare style that was popular around the turn of the 20th century. This home was built in 1900, and the Gibsons became its owners in 2008.

911 Elden Street ~ Home of Dave and Mayor Lisa Merkel

Known as "The Old Buell Place," this Victorian farmhouse was built in 1895 and has undergone many modern renovations while still retaining the old historic feel the Merkels fell in love with when they became its owners in 2002.

750 Center St. ~ ArtSpace Herndon

Built in the 1940s, the building that now houses ArtSpace was originally a tractor and farm equipment store, then an automotive repair shop, and then a printing and graphics company until the Town purchased it in 2002 to become the arts hub that it is today. Light refreshments will be served at this location, courtesy of the Herndon Chamber of Commerce.

653 Spring St. ~ Home of Levenia and Fred Kibler

Built around 1945, the Kibler home is a solidly-built, two-story, post-World War II Colonial. Since then, the home has undergone many changes and improvements with each renter or owner that has come and gone. The Kiblers have maintained the charm and warmth of its original 1940s feel while adding onto the home and making it the modern family-friendly home it is today.

608 Spring St. ~ Home of Elizabeth Vosseller, Christie Blumenthal and Jimmie Kramer

Nicknamed "The Double-H Ranch" for "Historic Herndon Ranch," this home is a ranch-style home built in 1957, which its owners love for its "cottage feel." Purchased by Vosseller in 2008, she is only the third owner in the home's history.

126 Pearl St. ~ Home of Ken Marter and Ray Nazzal

The newest home on the tour, this house was just built last year in 2012 as one of the first homes in the new Darlington Oaks community. The Craftsman-style home features an open architecture on the main floor, and is "modern with an emphasis on comfort." Marter and Nazzal say friends and family love to come visit so much that it has been dubbed "The Inn on Pearl Street."
