Practicing for One Concert, Planning the Next

It’s crunch time for the Herndon Towne Square Singers as we enter the final month of rehearsals prior to our “Lights, Camera, Christmas” concert on December 7th and 8th. But crunch time notwithstanding, there’s plenty of planning afoot for the spring concert.

And so, on a recent Thursday night, Director “C” Culpepper and five singers huddled over a table discussing a late-60s/early-70s peace-and-love theme and what songs should be included. We passed around Top Billboard Hit Lists for those years, then proceeded to ooh and ahh over our personal favorites from the likes of Sonny and Cher; Peter, Paul and Mary; Neil Diamond; Fifth Dimension, Creedence Clearwater Revival; the Beatles; Jim Croce and oh, so many others. Some songs triggered a memory to share, others had us spontaneously bursting into song: “Ain’t no sunshine when she’s go-o-one…”.

Do you suppose it’s possible to cram 105 oldies-but-goodies into a two-hour show? Maybe if we sing at warp speed …

Tickets for “Lights, Camera, Christmas” are available at the Herndon Community Center on Ferndale Avenue or by calling (703) 787-7300. Unsold tickets, if any, will be available at the door on the day of the performance. The price is $12.

Performances will be at ArtSpace Herndon at 750 Center Street in Herndon. Seating is limited, so plan to get your tickets early.
