Herndon Rotary Club Pumpkin Patch Opens Saturday

The patch opens downtown this Saturday, Oct. 5 and is open daily through Halloween.

What a way to spend what is supposed to be a very warm and sunny Saturday - taking the kids (or maybe even just yourself) to the pumpkin patch.

All around town, pumpkins are already starting to grace front porches, but if you haven't had time to grab one for yourself yet, today - Saturday, Oct. 5 - is your chance, as the Herndon Rotary Club's pumpkin patch is officially open for business.

The patch is located in downtown on Elden Street, between Monroe Street and the W&OD Trail, right across the street from Anita's restaurant, behind Busch Automotive.

Though Rotary volunteers will often be on site, club representatives say the patch is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and operates on the honor system - pick out a pumpkin, and just put your cash in the cash box. Pumpkins are $5 for a small one, $10 for a medium one, and $15 for a large one.

There is a special "photo op" section near the entrance where families are welcome to take family photos among the hay bales and scarecrows.

For opening weekend, this Saturday and Sunday, there will be free cider and snacks for visitors to the pumpkin patch.

Beginning Oct. 15, specially decorated pumpkins will also be available, decorated by Herndon High art students.

Proceeds benefit Rotary causes such as scholarships to local high school students.
