The Season of Giving Starts Now

This is the time of year when you it's hard to escape the holiday music, the decorations, the festive galas and parties. But it is also the time of year when we have the chance to reflect and give thanks for the many blessings of food, shelter, warm clothes, clean water, medicine, safe streets and schools and often, much much more.

For those in our community that are in need, this is the time of year when we can really help - there are many opportunities to engage during this season of giving and I invite you to find an opportunity to donate time, food, gifts, or money to help our less fortunate neighbors.

One such opportunity is to help provide shoes to school age children.  I invite you to join the Board of Directors of the Council for the Arts of Herndon (CAH) and Supervisor John Foust in donating to our Holiday Shoe Drive.

This time of year finds too many kids still wearing flip flops and summer sandals at Hutchison Elementary School.  It is one of those things you just don't think about but there are many children who's families can not afford to buy them winter shoes.  We are collecting new children’s closed-toed sneakers (in sizes 12 through 4) or gift cards for Target, Kohl’s, Walmart or K-Mart in $10 increments.

You can bring them by the Council for the Arts of Herndon's office on the 2nd floor of Old Town Hall, Herndon or to Supervisor Foust's office on the 1st floor of Old Town Hall; or to the Supervisor's office in McLean or to any upcoming Town Council meeting!  If you provide an email address, CAH can provide you with a donation letter for tax purposes.

Thank you in advance!  We will present the shoes and gift cards to the Principal of Hutchison right before the holiday break and the families are very grateful.  We have conducted this shoe drive since 2006 for 8 years and are grateful to both Supervisor Joan DuBois and John Foust for partnering with the Council for the Arts of Herndon for this charitable event.
