Nominations now being accepted for the Town of Herndon's 30th Annual Mayor's Volunteer Appreciation Awards

From our website:

The 30th Annual Mayor's Volunteer Appreciation Night  will be held on Sunday, April 6 at 7:00 pm at the Herndon Community Center to recognize Herndon's outstanding volunteers during "National Volunteer Week."  The tradition of volunteerism in Herndon is extremely meaningful to the services and the quality of life enjoyed by our residents.  This special evening is being sponsored by the Herndon Town Council to congratulate and to extend the Town's appreciation to our many volunteers who have worked diligently throughout the year to make Herndon an outstanding community and to those who have provided dedicated service through community-wide volunteerism.  Your support is needed to nominate volunteers for our Outstanding Volunteers, Distinguished Service Award and Distinguished Corporate Service Award.

Outstanding Volunteers: Please encourage your members to provide names of volunteers, including teen volunteers, from your organization who have provided outstanding community service during the past year.  This service can be provided through more than one organization.  A minimum of 100 hours of volunteer service during the past year is a prerequisite for nomination.  This service should have been performed in the Town of Herndon and/or provided direct benefit to the Town of Herndon.

Distinguished Service Award: The Town will honor up to three adult volunteers and one teen volunteer who have made distinguished contributions through their dedication and devotion to the citizens of Herndon.  Nominees for the Distinguished Service Award should have provided extensive community-wide support through volunteer efforts extending over several years, or should have volunteered for special projects involving considerable leadership, time and effort. Candidates may have volunteered in typical assignments, but through their leadership and dedication, have produced exceptional results.  Volunteer efforts should be in several different organizations with a minimum of two years of service.  Previous Distinguished Service Award winners are reconsidered after a ten-year period.  Visit www.herndon-va.gov for a list of our community's previous award winners.  This service should have been performed in the Town of Herndon and/or provided direct benefit to the Town of Herndon.

Distinguished Corporate Service Award: The Town will honor up to two businesses or corporations located in the Town of Herndon or contributing to the Town through its outstanding commitment to the promotion of the Town for the greater good of Herndon.  Nominees should have taken pride in the Town illustrated through involvement in projects and events that bring business and people to the Town of Herndon.  They should have an ongoing community impact through a partnership with the Town or other Town of Herndon based businesses that help benefit the Town, its residents and visitors.  Candidates should have an historical record of supporting volunteerism through innovation,
employee volunteer programs, volunteer hours, number of volunteers, monetary support and so on.
