How Green Is Herndon?

Does Herndon make it easy for you to live an earth-friendly lifestyle? What do you wish was different?

Towns across the country are getting new recycling centers, giving away rain barrels and installing parking meters with solar panels. Here at Patch, we want to know: What makes Herndon green?

The Town of Herndon, local organizations and local businesses in Herndon have been getting their green on. 

Herndon earned Virginia Municipal League's Go Green Virginia Green Government certification in 2011. The program recognizes municipalities that work to implement environmentally friendly and "green" policies and actions. The town has also been recognized for its bio-pond.

Friends of Runnymede Park has a native plant garden at the park and holds a park clean up every spring. The Herndon Environmental Network provides information and education on living green, and is currently hoping to create a community garden in herndon. 

Local businesses are becoming more green too. MOMs Organic Market and Stone's Cove Kitbar both provide charging stations for hybrid vehicles at their locations.
