Supporters Raise More Than $5,000 for Herndon Man's Spinal Surgery

Doctors hope spinal surgeries will be able to correct his chronic pain that he said lost him his ability to work.

Supporters have raised more than $5,000 to help a Herndon man get a third spinal surgery to try and relieve the severe chronic pain he has lived with for more than a year.

Through the site GoFundMe, Dave Stoll has received around $5,800 in donations toward the $7,500 he asked for, as of Wednesday.

Stoll wrote that the pain hit him in July 2012 during work travels, and hasn't let up since. Doctors reportedly discovered a 2mm gap in his spine that they believe is causing the pain. They said surgeries to help close the gap might help.

Stoll received his third spinal surgery in November, but has been unable to work for so long that he has lost his health insurance and must pay out of pocket for as much as he can.

"All my life I have been the person that has helped raise money for charities. I have helped my church and motorcycle riding club raise money for local charities and St. Jude Children's Hospital. In November of 2012, even though I was still recovering from a surgery on my spine, I single-handedly organized a donation effort to help support survivors of Hurricane Sandy on Long Island, N.Y. Ultimately I made two trips totaling 14,000 pounds of goods and supplies," Stoll writes on his GoFundMe page.

"Now I am doing the most difficult thing I have ever been faced with. I am asking for help," he wrote.
