Event at O'Sullivan's Raises Funds to Help Fly Damien Scanlan's Body Home

Food and drink sales, raffles and a silent auction will benefit Damien's Fund.

Many in Herndon have been mourning the passing of a beloved member of the community.

On Friday morning, the body of Damien Patrick Scanlan, 30, was discovered in the creek near Center and Locust streets.

Scanlan, originally from Ireland, had worked at the popular O'Sullivan's Irish Pub in downtown Herndon for the past two years, said Enda Browne, the pub's manager.

"He was the nicest guy you'd ever meet," Browne told Patch.

This Thursday, Jan. 23, O'Sullivan's will host an all-day fundraiser to help pay the costs of Scanlan's casket and trip home to Ireland, where he can be buried near family.

Browne said 100 percent of sales all day Thursday, 11 a.m. to 2 a.m., will be donated to Damien's Fund to help get their friend and co-worker back home.

In addition, from 6 to 10 p.m. that evening, the pub will host raffles and a silent auction, with many prizes already donated by local businesses and community members.

"The whole of Herndon will miss him," said Browne.

O'Sullivan's is located at 754 Elden St. in downtown Herndon. For more information, call the pub at 703-464-0522.
