Reston Non-profit, Global Camps Africa, to Host Dinner and Auction to Support HIV-affected Children in South Africa

Reston, VA – Philip Lilienthal, Founder and President of Global Camps Africa (GCA), is hoping for a big turnout at the organization’s signature event in Reston on April 18th.  The money raised from ticket sales and both the live and silent auctions will support the camps for South Africa’s orphans and vulnerable children that he founded eight years ago.   Since the inaugural camp in 2004, more than 4,600 children have participated in the program, which uses the American-style camp model to deliver HIV/AIDS prevention education and life skills training.

“It is still amazing to me,” says Phil, “that the children are so ready for this knowledge and that they can shift the way they look at life after just 8 days at camp. It doesn't mean that their future is assured, but they know that there’s a path out of their circumstances, and they know that they can achieve it.”

The April 18th event, called Celebrate Camp Sizanani, will feature an African drumming performance, South African wine and cuisine, as well as live and silent auctions.  “Thanks to some very generous donors and sponsors, we have a fantastic array of auction items for guests to bid on,” says

Phil.  Some of the items include two round-trip airline tickets to Johannesburg, South Africa, a four-night stay at Trump International Hotel in Waikiki, Hawaii, and a Tom Brady autographed football, among many others.

“The community here has always generously supported the children served by Global Camps Africa.  We are deeply grateful for their partnership, and we’re looking forward to another opportunity to connect with our donors and friends at the event.  It’s always rewarding for me to show them what a difference they are making in the lives of these children, and we’ll have a chance to do that on April 18th,” says Phil.
