Persecution of Women and Minorities in the Muslim World

Panelists at this event will discuss reasons the Muslim World has become an epitome of violence and discrimination against women and minorities despite Muslims claiming to have a peaceful religion.  Why are injustices committed in the name of Islam, such as preventing girls from attending schools and minorities from worshipping in peace?  Why do people like Malala Yousufzai get shot in the head if they speak out against such discrimination?  Why doesn’t somebody stop them?

The event will take place on November 7, 2013 in Mason Hall, Room D003 at George Mason University, Fairfax, Va. at 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM. Keynote speaker: Award winning speaker, author and activist, Qasim Rashid will be the keynote speaker at this event.  An attorney by profession, Rashid’s recent book The Wrong Kind of Muslim has earned him plaudits from national and international media organisations.  His work has appeared in USA Today, National Public Radio, Richmond Times-DispatchVirginia PilotSan Francisco Chronicle, among various other national and international outlets. Qasim is also frequently quoted by national and international media outlets to include The New York TimesPittsburg Post-Gazette, Muslim Television Ahmadiyya International, Huffington Post Live, NBC, CBS, the Christopher Gabriel Program and Voice of America.  He also regularly lectures on Islam and human rights at various universities and places of worship worldwide.
