The Hunt for a Summer Job

Tips on how to search and secure a summer job for the youths in our area

Whether you’re a high school or college student, the summer means two things. A break from school work and the hunt for a summer job. During this tough time in our country’s job market history, the search for a summer job may be a daunting task. Below are tips on how to approach this task and secure a job for the summer.

Find a job that best fits your personality

Are you a people person? If so, summer jobs as a camp counselor, retail store, or a position at one of your local parks may be the best fit.

Be Prepared

First impressions on a job interview are everything. An employer will be asking questions to base their decision of whether or not you’re a reliable, hard working individual so be on you’re A-game! If possible, research the park or company you will be potentially working for. Have a parent or friend practice interviewing you.

Know where to look

Although the internet is a great go-to resource, there are other options. Your local library, community center, or even a local college will have lists of job opportunities in your area. Also keep an eye out for businesses that are just opening. They may be nearing the hiring process, or are still trying to fill out their staff.
