Nature Fest 2010 Recap

Videos and photos of the 2010 Nature Fest celebration at Herndon's Runnymede Park

This year's Nature Fest 2010, held Sept. 19, offered an entire afternoon of education, exploration, fun and activities.

Children and families were able to learn about native plants to Virginia, beekeeping, wildlife, snakes, fish, reptiles, bugs and insects, gardening, recycling and much more. One of the main attractions was the Web of Life activity, where participants played the part of nature and made a living web of how nature interacts.

While hiking through trails at Runnymede Park attendees also learned about how to stay safe in the woods. Fairfax County was on hand to teach participants about ticks and other harmful critters and offered information. Attendees got to hear about how wildlife can be helpful as well, such as rat snakes who help keep mice and rat populations down by feeding on them.

HCTV was on hand collecting information and interviewing volunteers on the subjects they were working with. JJ Deli sold food, beverages and snacks to attendees and Herndon beekeepers sold locally made honey, made just outside Herndon. Additionally, Frying Pan Farm Park offered attendees a chance to pet a cow, goats and take a peek at one of their chickens and a baby peacock.
