Local Prayer Vigils Being Held for Sandy Hook Community

Good Shepherd will hold a prayer vigil Sunday, Heritage Fellowship will hold a vigil Monday.

Church of the Good Shepherd will be open for community prayer for the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy at 7 p.m. tonight. 

Community members are invited to come pray for the victims and those impacted by the tragedy. Chruch of the Good Shepherd is a United Methodist Church located at 2351 Hunter Mill Rd. in Vienna. 

The sanctuary and prayer room will be open to all, and attendees are also welcome to write messages to the Newtown, CT community.

“We invite anyone to please come join us in the face of this tragic loss,” said Rev. Mark Burgess. 

Burgess said that notes written will be sent to the Newtown United Methodist Church, which has been serving as a response center in Connecticut.

Additionally, a prayer vigil for the victims and families of the Sandy Hook tragedy will take place from 6-9 p.m. Monday at Heritage Fellowship Church, 2501 Fox Mill Rd., in the Herndon-Reston area.

Those who wish to join in the vigil can stop in any time, for any length of time during the three-hour vigil. The three hours will be devoted for anyone who wishes to come pray.
