I-495 at Dulles Toll Road to Close During Overnight Hours This Weekend

The Outer Loop of I-495 will see closures from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. Friday and Saturday night

The Outer Loop of I-495 at the Dulles Toll Road will closed tonight and tomorrow night for steel beam placement, the Virginia Department of Transportation said in a press release.

Beginning at 9:30 p.m. one lane will close on I-495 south at Exit 45 (Dulles Toll Road) and will progress to a full road closure after 11 p.m. All lanes will be reopened by 8 a.m.

Drivers will be detoured to Exit 45B on the Dulles Connector Road toward I-66 to Exit 19A, Chain Bridge Road, which they will follow back to I-495 south. Police will be on the site helping to direct traffic. Drivers should expect delays and the detour may add 15 to 20 minutes to drivers’ trips between 11 p.m. and midnight.

The Dulles Toll Road exit ramp to I-495 will also be closed, and drivers will be directed to continue east on the Dulles Toll Road to follow the detour.

The steel beams are being placed as part of the Capital Beltway High Occupancy Toll Lanes project for the Jones Branch Drive Connection. If inclement weather occurs, the work will be rescheduled for Aug. 15-16. For detour map click here.
