Among the information Patch strives to provide for its readers is a directory of businesses that serve residents in the communities we cover. In the directory, customers can find business descriptions, hours, accepted payment methods and much more for stores and restaurants around town.
All Patch readers—in addition to being able to post free events and announcements—can rate businesses in the directory on a scale of one to five stars and can add a review.
But many business owners don't realize they can “claim” their listing, giving them more control over their Patch page. All businesses with a physical location in the 20170 ZIP code should be listed (if yours is not, contact me at Leslie@Patch.com). And while directory listings are free for those ZIP codes, nearby businesses may purchase a directory page. Patch also offers advertizing space for even more visibility (contact Barbara Ward to learn more at email@example.com).
How to Claim a Listing
Owners or managers can search for their business listing on Patch in the search box at the upper right corner of the home page (the instructions on this page can be downloaded as a PDF; keep in mind our page format has changed slightly since the instructions were created). After locating the business click on it to visit the page. Just below the pictures—if there are no pictures, you can add them after making the claim—click "claim your listing." A form will pop up asking for your name, contact information and proof of ownership.
Within a few days, someone from Patch will contact you to verify the information, and then approve the business owner or manager as the “listing manager.” Once approved, a "Manage Your Listing" button will appear at the top of your directory page.
From your management dashboard, you’ll be able to make changes and updates to the page:
Here you can see how many users have rated, reviewed or follow your listing. You can email your customers your directory link to seek out more reviews, and link the directory page to your Facebook or Twitter account.
Add photos, website information, hours of operation, contact information and more under the "basic info" tab. Some of this information cannot be changed, but you can request a new description if you think your business is not accurately described.
Choose "extra info" to add information like the founding date of your business, what kinds of payments you accept, if there's street parking or a lot and much more.
Manage Photos & Media
Here you can add and edit photos and choose which image is featured. If you have video or PDFs, you would add that here, too.
You can see what people have to say about your business.
Video Uploads and Other Tools
You can upgrade your listing with a video profile, add a message from the owner and become a featured business on the Places page for a fee. Learn more about these options and how to get in touch with a sales team member.
