Five Things to Know This Week in Herndon

A few tips to help you through the week ending Sept. 16.

1) The Herndon Towne Square Singers begin rehearsals tonight for the group's upcoming winter concert. The group is in its 30th year and this year's program will feature favorite songs from the past 30 years. Those who are interested in joining the Towne Square Singers can contact director Harlon Reece at harlon.reece@verizon.net or 703-435-3969. 

2) A new exhibit including the work of Roberta Thole and Philippe Mougne opens Tuesday at ArtSpace. Thole's work includes Classical Symbolism painted on canvas, copper or fresco. She has a studio at Reston Art Gallery and Studios. Mougne's work features sculptures that reflects elegence, energy or a sense of surprise. Mougne studio is located in Washington, D.C. 

3) After Saturday afternoon's storms, the Town of Herndon is waiving requirements to bundle tree branches and debris through Sept. 14.

4) The Giving Circle of HOPE is hosting a free panel discussion on caregiving on at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Reston Community Center at Lake Anne (1609-A Washington Plaza, Reston). Panelists include Sharon Lynn, director of the Fairfax County Agency on Aging, James L. Brooks, associate state director of AARP, and Judy Seiff, a caregiver. Founder and President of Graceful Care Pat Williams will moderate. 

5) Volunteers are needed for Herndon NatureQuest 2012 which will be held on from noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 30. Volunteers are needed to help exhibitors at their stations. Exhibits cover many nature-related topics, including butterflies, snakes, turtles, toads, honey bees and more.
