Five Things to Know This Week

Town Council and Planning Commission will meet to discuss Downtown Master Plan

 Here are your Five Things to know this week:

1. Members of the Herndon Town Council and Planning Commission will be meeting in a joint work session on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Mary Ingram Council Chambers to discuss the Downtown Master Plan. The regular Town Council work session will follow immediately after.

2. The 13th annual Stomp Fest competition will be held at Herndon High School on Saturday. The HHS Step Team, and step teams from all over the region, will compete for a prize. Herndon’s Shades of You and COLD BEAST step teams will close the show with a grand finale performance.

3. This week begins high school basketball playoffs in the area and although Herndon has a bye in the first round, they’ll take to the court again on Thursday night at 6 p.m. in an away game against Chantilly. If you’re planning on going, get there early. Friday night’s game was completely full more than 30 minutes before the game started.

4. Local networking group, The Syndicate, will host its on Friday at the Sheraton Reston. This month’s featured speaker is Michael McCarthy, editor in chief and content director at Washington Flyer Magazine and Media.

5. Construction on the aerial bridges that will carry the tracks for the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project over I-495 at Route 123 begins Wednesday night. The work will necessitate the closing of three northbound lanes of I-495 during overnights from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. The closings will continue on Feb. 18, 18 and nightly on Sundays through Fridays over the next five weeks. Drivers should expect significant delays, as only a single lane will be open to traffic.
