E-Waste Recycling Event to Be Held in Herndon

Cox Cable and Synergy host e-recycling event on March 12

Cox Communications is hosting an electronics waste recycling event on Saturday, March 12 at its Herndon retail center, located at 3080 Centreville Rd. from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The event will be held rain or shine and is free to residents and businesses in the Fairfax County area. “We are so pleased to bring this event to Northern Virginia again this year,” said Allen Roberts, vice president of operations for Cox in Northern Virginia in a press release.

“In addition to providing a valuable community service and giving our local residents and businesses an opportunity to properly dispose of electronic waste, the event contributes to the protection of our environment and Cox’s companywide goal of reducing our carbon footprint 20 percent by 2017,” Roberts said.

The list of electronic items accepted includes, but is not limited to:
CPUs, servers and computers, CRT and LCD-based computer monitors, computer mice, printers, cables, modems, speakers, scanners, electronic peripherals, networking hardware, fax and answering machines, copy machines, power tools, televisions, VCRs, CD players, DVD players, remote controls, audio-visual equipment, iPods, MP3 players, computer games, microwaves and small kitchen appliances, cell phones, telephones, radios, CB radios, stereos and calculators.

Fairfax County residents can e-mail Cox at coxewaste@cox.com for questions about the event. The event is in partnership with the Dulles Regional Chamber of Commerce, Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce, Volunteer Fairfax and Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Washington/Fairfax County. This is the second year that Synergy Recycling is the recycling agent.

From March 5-19 Cox and Synergy will offer business recycling for Fairfax County-based businesses. Materials will be collected Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Accepted materials include the ones mentioned above, however businesses must have at least a pick-up truck load of materials and follow other protocols to be eligible for free collection.

Businesses who use the service will receive a “certificate of destruction and recycling” after their appointment. If businesses do not have a pick-up truck load of material they can bring materials to the March 12 event.
