24 Miles of Fairfax County Parkway to Be Repaved

The Virginia Department of Transportation will repave 24 miles of Fairfax County Parkway this spring.

Starting this spring the Virginia Department of Transportation will repave 24 miles of the 32-mile Fairfax County Parkway, starting at Route 7 and extending to Rolling Road in Springfield. 

The maintenance project will cost $19 million and the majority of the work will be completed at night and on weekends. It will require lane closures and occassional detours.  

VDOT will hold four community meetings along the corridor to talk about the work being done and the schedule with area residents. Each meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Meetings will be held:

• April 11 at Armstrong Elementary School, 11900 Lake Newport Rd., in Reston.
• April 17 at Robinson Secondary School, 5035 Sideburn Rd., in Fairfax.
• April 24 at the VDOT District Office, 4975 Alliance Dr., in Fairfax.
• May 2 at West Springfield High School, 6100 Rolling Rd., in Springfield.  

Work will begin in April and should be completed by October. The heaviest traffic impacts will be scheduled from June through Labor Day, when Fairfax County schools are out for the summer.  

The northern section of Fairfax County Parkway from Route 7 to Baron Cameron Ave. will be repaved first. Sections of the parkway will not be paved during the project, including the construction zone at Fair Lakes Parkway and locationsn that were paved in the last five years.
