The Wiener's Circle Offers New Location, Hours

The Herndon business continues to serve gourmet hot dogs, sausages, brats and kielbasas all year round

As the days grow longer and the weather warms up many people will begin to stock their freezers with hamburger meat and hot dogs as they prepare for the outdoor cooking season. The same goes for owners of The Wiener's Circle, a Herndon business, which offers great summer tastes all year round.

According to Diane Hill, both she and her husband, Greg, have owned the business since it first opened as a carry-out lunch operation, in 2008. Since then, they have grown to a quick-serve, casual dining restaurant, which opened just last month.

“I have to say this was all my husband's idea,” Hill said. The pair also owns Great Falls Gourmet Caterers. “We've had sausage making parties at our home, he's made some homemade sausages in our catering operation, and he just saw that there was this huge void in the Herndon-Reston area for a place that could really sell premium, all-beef hot dogs and special quality sausage and kielbasa.”

Due to their many years of catering, Hill said the couple had ideas on how to tweak their menu items to keep them interesting while pulling customers back in, repeatedly. A year later, the business took off.

Menu items include a variety of gourmet hot dogs, sausages, brats and kielbasas. A number of rotated weekly specials such as Philly cheese steaks, Italian pork sandwiches and crab cakes are also served.

Last week, Greg Hill recommended the 4 oz. angus beef hot dog with light toppings to new customers. The fresh lamb burger sliders and the Wednesday special—a fresh gourmet hamburger, cooked to order, on a ciabatta roll—are also popular choices. The best part, Hill said, is the topping bar, with more than 40 different toppings, free of charge.

“I recognize that anyone can cook a hot dog but who offers it steamed, grilled or deep-fried, and puts out 40 plus toppings to put on it,” Greg Hill said. “You can get your hot dog with mustard and fresh chopped red onion or if you like it looking like it got hit by a loaded refrigerator, you can get that way as well.”

Customers can also get up to five complimentary hot toppings, his wife added, that are kept in the back of the restaurant. Chili cheese, Coney Island meat sauce and a homemade grilled serrano chile and onion mixture are just a few of the options.

“We feel we deliver a very high quality product at a very reasonable price. People are just thrilled with it,” said Diane Hill. “We have a lot of business clientèle that come in for lunch from the area and some who come as far away as Chantilly and Fairfax. Right now we have customers that come from Bethesda. They don't come very often. It's like every two weeks that they show up but they drive at least 40 minutes they say.”

Hill said most of their marketing has taken place through word of mouth, an email marketing campaign or their Facebook.

“The response to our sit down venue has been fantastic,” Greg Hill said. “Our loyal regulars are loving it and the word is spreading based on all the new faces we see.”

The Wiener's Circle is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., for breakfast. Ribeye, egg and aged white cheddar cheese, breakfast tostados and flatbread wraps are just a few of the menu items available. The restaurant reopens from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for lunch. Both owners said they are planning on evening and Saturday hours in the near future.

“I like hot dogs because I can take that simple food and raise it to a completely different level. That's what the Wiener's Circle is about,” said Greg Hill. “The Wiener's Circle is a fun place, lots of customer interaction, unique food, quick service and very reasonable prices. Visit us soon.”
