Speak Out: Banner's Hallmark in Worldgate Set to Close This Month

Will you miss the local Hallmark store?

Banner's Hallmark, a chain that owns more than 25 Hallmark stores in the Northern Virginia, Washington DC and Maryland region, announced it would close the original Worldgate store in January.

The company announced on Facebook that it would say goodbye to Banner's Hallmark in the Worldgate Shopping Center off of Worldgate Drive. The store will close by the end of February, and currently all products are on sale for 25 percent off or more.

The Worldgate location was Banner's first Hallmark store opened. The chain previously had 32 stores, and will have closed four locations in the last year including the closing of the Herndon location.

Other locations that closed include the Francis Scott Key Mall location in Maryland, the Pentagon Row location and the Springfield Mall location, after the mall itself closed. Twenty eight Banner's Hallmark stores are still open.

The next closest Hallmark stores to Herndon are:
• Banner's Hallmark at North Point Village in Reston (1438 Reston Pky.)
• Banner's Hallmark at Cascades Marketplace in Sterling (46309 Cranston St.)
• Shelby's Hallmark at Fox Mill Shopping Center in Herndon (2553 John Milton Drive)
• Banner's Hallmark at Dulles Town Center in Dulles Mall (21100 Dulles Town Center #277)

Yes, I will miss it quite a lot. I will have to find an alternative because I will NOT patronize the other Banner stores!

Yes, I will be sad to see it go!

I moved from Herndon several years ago but LOVED this Hallmark store. They always had the type of cards, gifts, and other items that I wanted. There was a Hallmark store on Elden St., years ago, and I truly missed that. Parking there was easier than at Worldgate. However, the Worldgate location had as much and more than the one that closed on Elden St. I feel bad for people who've grown to love this wonderful store and will find it difficult to go elsewhere.
