Photos: Mellow Mushroom Celebrates Grand Opening in Herndon

Monday was a good day, both for the brother and sister owner team of Pooja and Amit Mehta, and for pizza lovers throughout the area - it marked the grand opening of Mellow Mushroom, a unique new pizzeria in Herndon.

Quite a crowd turned out for the grand opening ceremony and ribbon-cutting at 10 a.m., including Mayor Lisa Merkel and members of the Town Council, local business owners, family members of Pooja's and Amit's, the Town Clerk and Town Manager, and many more.

Following the ribbon-cutting, the restaurant officially opened for business to its first lunch crowd at 11 a.m.

Mayor Lisa Merkel said she was one of a small crowd invited to a "practice opening" for friends and family members of the restaurant's employees on Saturday, and said the pizza was "to die for," her favorite being a pizza she tried that had shrimp and grits for toppings.

Patch was treated to a look at the inside of the restaurant shortly before the ceremony. The restaurant features beautiful murals both inside and outside the restaurant, as well as sleek and elegant decor with the faint hint of steampunk style.
