Herndon Welcomes N'Used High-End Consignment Store

Though Rosemary Edwards’ new consignment store, N’Used, came out of a series of negative events, she didn’t let it stop her from making it into something positive and uplifting.

After losing her business-to-business sales job in March 2011 her Reston home was hit by a tornado in a spring storm, she said. One week later it caught fire and was condemned. Edwards said she spent the summer at the beach trying to figure out what to do with herself.

When she returned back to Reston it was time to go through the things that had been salvaged from her home, which was mainly a lot of clothing and shoes. She began separating it into piles—keep, donate, consign. As she looked at how large her “consign” pile was getting a though struck her.

“Who better to consign than me,” Edwards said. That was in September. By October she had signed a lease at 286 Sunset Park Drive, in Sunset Business Park, in Herndon. Her soft opening was on Nov. 11, 2011.

Edwards said N’Used is a word she made up when describing things that were new to her but otherwise used, such as a pre-owned car. She said she thought the unique name fit for her unique shop.

Everyone’s reaction when they walk through the doors is usually one of surprise, Edwards said. She said many feel her shop is unexpected for a business park. “There’s so much eye candy to look at,” she said.

Reactions to her shop have been positive too, Edwards said. She’ll notice three generations of women—juniors, their mothers and their grandmothers—may come to shop together. “I just wanted it to be fun, and it’s turned out fun,” she said.

After coming out of a very male-oriented sales position, Edwards said owning N’Used is refreshing. The store carries everything from department store brands to Versace and Prada, and consigns purses, shoes, womens clothing, juniors clothing and girls clothing.

In addition to clothing, Edwards carries new accessories such as jewelry, organic perfumes, locally made pendants and rings, fair trade bracelets, soaps and more.

Consignment is by appointment. Items will be placed on sale for 60 days and the price is split 50/50 between N’Used and the consigner. Currently the shop is accepting spring and summer clothing.

If items have not sold within 60 days they can be picked back up within two weeks, they may be chosen to renew, or they can be donated to LAWS, the Loudoun Abused Women’s Shelter.
