Local Businesses Celebrate Mardi Gras

Live music, costumes and beads were just a few ways local residents celebrated

Businesses in downtown Herndon were a bit busier than usual for a Tuesday night as Mardi Gras offered great specials, live music and beads.

O'Sullivan's Irish Pub, located at 754 Elden St., held their first annual Mardi Gras Ball.  A costume ball and contest were held for Best Mask and Best in Show. The 2011 King and Queen of Mardi Gras were also crowned. During the festivities live music was performed by  Little Big Boy.

Across the street, at ,  cajun food and brews were being served. DJ Z, dancing, prizes and beads were also available.

Casino games including blackjack, craps and poker were played to benefit the charity Operation Homefront and medical costs for those undergoing cancer treatment. Owner Jimmy Cerrito said it wouldn't have been possible without the help of clear-IT who sponosored all of the gaming tables.

A costume party and contest was held at the , located at 314 Elden St. German Fasching, one of the few times each year the normally staid Germans let loose and have fun, was celebrated with German beer and Brats Platter, before the fasting of Lent began.

A full menu was available as well as music by members of the Original Bavarian Dance Club of Washington, D.C.
