The new Big Lots! announced its grand opening with gift cards, cake, cookies, coffee and music at the Herndon Centre on Friday, Oct. 7.
Herndon resident Jay Hutchison and his band mates entertained shoppers with music while Santa came to town early to hand out small denomination gift cards and emloyees handed out treats.
District Manager Tom Kayda said the company is happy to give herndon another place to shop, as well as provide jobs for local residents. Store Manager Mary Lynch said the 47 associates hired at the location are all from the Herndon community.

Big Lots! presented a $2,500 check to Herndon Elementary School. Mayor Steve DeBenedittis, Town Manager Art Anselene and other Herndon staff and officials were on hand to congratulate the store on its grand opening.
The store stocks items from groceries to seasonal decor to toys, clothes, and even furniture. The Herndon location is one of 90 Big Lots! stores opening this year.
