AWS in Herndon Seeks 100 Software Engineers Who Can Get Top-Secret Clearances

AWS is becoming a major player in the game to win federal government cloud contracts, including the CIA.

Amazon Web Services (AWS), which just opened a brand-new headquarters in the Town of Herndon a recently, is giving IBM and others a run for their money - literally - in the fight for federal government contracts.

ComputerWorld reported this week that AWS recently challenged IBM for a contract to run the CIA's top-secret, private cloud.
Initially, ComputerWorld reported, both IBM and AWS put in bids for the CIA's cloud contract - and the government chose AWS' bid over IBM's, despite the fact that AWS' price was roughly 50 percent higher than IBM's.

IBM reportedly formally protested AWS' victory, and won in an administrative hearing, forcing the government to re-bid the project. AWS reportedly filed a 61-page complaint about the re-bid.

All of this proves that cloud-computing is a growing, highly competitive field, and that Amazon is a major player in it.

This is further evidenced by the fact that ComputerWorld reports AWS' Herndon headquarters is planning an exclusive, invitation-only recruiting event at its new facilities on Sept. 24 and 25 for IT professionals who can get top secret clearances.

ComputerWorld said AWS indicated it wants to hire at least 100 IT professionals who can get clearances - and that's just the tip of the iceberg. The career page for AWS' Herndon headquarters has a full six pages of openings to scroll through.

The company previously announced publicly that it was committed to bringing 500 new jobs to the area when it opened its new Herndon headquarters.
