5 Questions With...The Owner of One of Herndon's Most Widely Loved Shops

This shop in downtown Herndon draws people from all over the region and is regularly featured in top magazines.

Editor's Note: It's the holidays, and Herndon Patch wants to shine a spotlight on great local businesses right here in Herndon through '5 Questions With...' the people behind them.

In our latest edition, we feature Miriam Liggett, the owner of one of Herndon's most popular shops, that draws people from all over the region—Soliloquy Bridal Couture.

PATCH: Tell us a little bit about you and your background.

MIRIAM:
I spent 23 years in early childhood education, the last 15 years as a corporate executive. I was the East Division Vice President of Knowledge Learning Corporation, based in Portland, Oregon. My husband Tony, a former IT executive, our two daughters and I have lived in the Herndon/Reston area for over 20 years and we are so excited to have a business that supports these communities and beyond.

PATCH: Tell us a little about your business and what you offer.

MIRIAM:
Soliloquy Bridal Couture is a luxury bridal boutique offering attire and accessories for the bride, bridesmaids, flower girls, and mothers of the occasion. We are a full-service boutique that provides in-house design and alterations as well as gown preservation after the wedding. We also love working with heirloom pieces that brides want to either wear and/or incorporate into their wedding day look. We have seven employees on staff, including our Manager of Sales and Customer Experience, Lindsey Williams, and our receptionist, Natalie Thurman, who is a senior at Herndon High School.  It has been thrilling to give an opportunity to someone who lives and attends school in Herndon.

PATCH: Where did the idea for your business come from?

MIRIAM: I have always had a love for weddings. When I decided to leave my former employer, I took some time off to work on a business plan. I love customer service and wanted to find the right business to channel my passion and skills.  I explored various opportunities, all related to bridal. I realized after doing some research that this area needed the services and styles that we offer, and launched Soliloquy Bridal Couture as a family-owned and operated business in the fall of 2011.

PATCH: What do you love most about doing business in Herndon? What made you choose here for locating your business?

MIRIAM:
My husband, Tony actually found this location. We were looking in the Reston and Herndon area and found this site to be perfect. It is a split-level space that allows us to provide a private salon experience for each bride. Since we used to live in Herndon for eight years, we were very comfortable with the town as well. We love the quaint and welcoming feeling in the historic downtown section and our brides love the convenient adjacent parking. Many of the surrounding neighbors stop in to say hello and have commented that they love to see what's in our window each week.

PATCH: The holiday season is here—what great services, products or specials should locals definitely come check out at your business this year?

MIRIAM: The holiday is a great time to stop in to purchase items that a bride might need to complete her look like veils, garters, or jewelry. If you know a bride who has shopped with us, we keep a registry of items that she has tried on or indicated that she might purchase later. Additionally, we offer personalized items that a bride might like as a gift.
