5 Questions With...The Man With One of the Most Fun Jobs in Herndon

Adam Carluccio is the director of one of Herndon's most unique businesses.

Editor's Note: Herndon Patch wants to shine a spotlight on great local businesses right here in Herndon through '5 Questions With...' the people behind them.

In our latest edition, we feature Adam Carluccio, site director for the Herndon location of Bach to Rock, a small chain of music schools that offer everything from music lessons, to rock bands, to glee club and more.

PATCH: Tell us a little bit about you and your background.

ADAM: I taught special education math and science for both Fairfax and Loudoun County Public Schools, then I heard about Bach To Rock and I knew I had found my true home. As a multi-instrumentalist performer and audio engineer, I knew that I could flourish with the company. More importantly, I knew I could help younger musicians by offering something that wasn't available to me at their age: a one-stop-shop for everything you need in the musical realm. That's what Bach to Rock
is. You can get private lessons, join a rock band or glee club with a professional coach, and become a star in our DJ lab, recording in studio and on stage. And, most importantly, we find kids performance opportunities all around the D.C. area, so that they get unparalleled, real-life experience paired with the coaching of how to handle such situations both on and off the stage.

PATCH: Tell us a little about your business and what you offer.

ADAM: Bach to Rock (B2R) is a music education school for students of all ages, from early childhood through high school and beyond. B2R knows learning music should be fun and students learn best when they play music they enjoy. Weekly ensemble instruction and band formations lead to public concerts, Battle of the Bands and recording sessions in B2R’s professional recording studios. B2R builds technique, fosters teamwork and enhances self-esteem through private lessons, band instruction, and public performances. Bach to Rock opened its first corporate-owned location in 2007 in Bethesda, Md., and has since grown to six corporate schools — two in Maryland and four in Virginia. There are two franchise-owned schools in Port Washington, N.Y., and Wayne, Pa. Additional franchised schools are slated to open in Sacramento, Calif., Long Island, N.Y., Bristow, Va., and Fredericksburg, Va., in 2014.

PATCH: Where did the idea for this business come from?

ADAM: Bach to Rock was founded in 2007 by music teacher Jeff Levin. Bach to
Rock CEO/President Brian Gross’ company, Cambridge Information Group, acquired Bach to Rock in Bethesda, Md., from Levin, and the group worked together to develop the curriculum and create a music school franchise that can be operated by those without music degrees, but with a passion for education and music and the strong desire to own a business.

PATCH: What do you love most about doing business in Herndon? What made you choose here for locating your business?

ADAM: Herndon is a very close-knit town where the business owners and town government have a great, open dialogue and respect for one another. The people that live here are very friendly, family-oriented, and supportive of local business, as well.

PATCH: What great services/products/specials should locals definitely come check out at your business this year?

ADAM: Our winter, spring and summer camps give children the chance to join bands for a full week, even if they have little or no experience. They work with professional band coaches to learn a repertoire, create a band name, make t-shirts and posters, and perform for parents and friends at the end of the week.

Bach to Rock Herndon also offers birthday parties year-round, including:

- Early education parties (3-6 years old), featuring musical games with instructors and real instruments.

- Karaoke party (ages 7+) where children can spend time in our recoding studio singing top 40 hits and go home with their very own CD.

- Rock party (ages 8+) where children can learn to play instruments in a rock band, record a song in our studio and go home with their own CD.
