Two New Photography Exhibits Open Wednesday at ArtSpace Herndon

'US 17: The Scenic Highway' and 'Hopeful Calm & Beginnings' are on display at ArtSpace through Feb. 24.

ArtSpace Herndon's newest exhibits capture the landscape and character of highway US 17 from Virginia to Florida, as well as the discovery of nature. The two exhibits open Wednesday.

U.S. 17: The Scenic Highway features the photography of Catherine Powers. Powers has traveled the highway from the Blue Ridge Mountains in Winchester to the Gulf of Mexico in Punta Gorda, FL.

"My photography captures the character of the people, the culture and the beauty of the land along this 1,100 mile byway — the marsh-lined rivers, pristine white beaches, quaint fishing villages, small farms, proud military heritage, large cities, and historic communities," Powers said in an ArtSpace press release.

Michael Austin Kane's exhibit, "Hopeful Calm & Beginnings," focuses on nature as well as feelings of calm and new opportunity.

"The images in this exhibit represent visual discoveries that have provided me with an instinctive reaction, at first as a sense of contentment followed by hints of excitement and, of course, a desire to uncover more," Kane said in the press release.
