Council for the Arts of Herndon Honors Women in the Arts

Honorees are Grace Wolf, Karen Cobb and Robin Carroll.

The Council for the Arts of Herndon honored Grace Wolf, Karen Cobb and Robin Carroll in this year’s annual awards celebrating women in the arts.

Wolf, a member of the Herndon Town Council is an immediate past president of Council for the Arts; Cobb is a past executive director of the Council for the Arts; and Carroll is the immediate past president of the Herndon Foundation for the Cultural Arts.

The awards were presented to Wolf, Cobb and Carroll at the annual Afternoon Tea hosted by the Herndon Women’s Club, which took place March 9. The Council for the Arts of Herndon and the Fortnightly Club cosponsored the afternoon tea.

Guest speaker was Ann Rust, commissioner for the Virginia Commission for the Arts, who was a past award recipient. Rust spoke about the number of organizations in Herndon that enrich the local arts community, including the Elden Street Players, Classical Ballet Theatre, ArtSpace, the Herndon Towne Square Singers, and Friday Night Live among others.

Wolf is the first Korean-American woman elected to office in Virginia, and has served as the president of the Council for the Arts of Herndon since 2004. She has worked to bring arts programs to local schools, partner with businesses for art competitions, increased funding for art and more.

With Council for the Arts, Wolf has worked to bring more outdoor murals to downtown Herndon, as well as brought ceramic murals created by area students to the Herndon Community Center.

Cobb served as executive director for the Council for the Arts for eight years, and has since moved into commercial real estate after moving to Rappaport Companies. She has helped bring children’s activities to Worldgate Centre, and helped make Taste of the Town at Worldgate a signature Herndon event.

Carroll worked to implement the artistic vision for ArtSpace Herndon from 2008 until late 2012. She was responsible for the daily operations of the gallery, and managed the transition to part-time paid staff. She serves on the Visual Arts Programming Committee, is a member of the Executive Committee and assists with grant writing.
