Auditions for ESP’s The Seafarer Start Jan. 14

The dark comedy takes the stage from March 15 through April 6.

Elden Street Players will hold auditions for The Seafarer from Jan. 14-15.

The play, by Conor McPherson, is produced by Janet Bordeaux (Rooms, Flowers for Algernon), and directed by Angie Anderson (The Weir, Shining City).

No appointments are needed for auditions. Auditions will take place from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 14 and 15 at Hutchison Elementary School in Herndon. Registration begins at 7 p.m. Callbacks will be held from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 16 if necessary.

Rehearsals will be held at the Herndon Town Shop from Jan. 21 through March 14. Actual dates and times will be determined at a later time, but they will include weeknights and weekend days.

The show opens in March and performances will be held March 15-17, 22-24, 29-31, and April 4-6. Cast members will be required to be at set tear down on April 7 as well.

ESP is requesting all those trying out to bring their calendars so they can list possible conflicts during dress rehearsals.

Casting for The Seafarer will include five men in their late 40s and 50s who are Irish. Two are brothers, one of whom is blind. Auditions will include cold readings, though familiarity with the script is encouraged. Those who can do an Irish accent should use it in the audition. All roles are nonpaid volunteers.

Characters include: 

• James “Sharky” Harkin – Erstwhile fisherman/van driver/chauffeur, in his late 40s, early 50s, younger brother to Richard.

• Richard Harkin – Sharky’s older brother, recently gone blind, late 50s.

• Ivan Curry – Old friend of the Harkins, late 40s.

• Nicky Giblin – A friend of Richard’s, late 40s/50s.

• Mr. Lockhart – An acquaintance of Nicky’s, 50s.
