ArtSpace Exhibit Displays Work of Reston, DC Artists

The new exhibit is titled 'Explorations: In Copper, Paint, Wood and Steel.

On exhibit at through Oct. 21 is Explorations: In Copper, Paint, Wood and Steel.

The exhibit features the art of local abstract painter Roberta Thole of Reston, and the sculpture of Philippe Mougne of Washington, DC. An artist reception and gallery talk will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Sept. 28.

Thole's artwork is filled with classical symbolism—images of columns, arches and vases that call to mind art history. The classical symbols are painted on canvas, copper and panels with a contemporary eye.

Thole has a studio at Reston Art Gallery and Studios at Lake Anne in Reston.

Mougne's sculptures include contemporary lines, planes and shapes arranged to display elegance, energy or surprise. His pieces take on shapes between abstraction and figuration, and resemble the works of Alexander Calder.
