ArtSpace, Council for the Arts Announce 2nd At Home in Herndon Calendar Photography Competition

Second annual contest calls for photographs that depict scenes of Herndon in all seasons

ArtSpace Herndon and the Council for the Arts of Herndon announced the second annual “At Home in Herndon” Town Calendar Photography Competition.

Professional and amateur photographers age 16 and older are encouraged to submit entries to the competition. The deadline for submissions will be June 15, 2012. All entries must be photographed within the town of Herndon limits. Special consideration will be given to entries that include people participating in seasonal or community events, such as town holiday events, community events and festivals.

“By launching this year’s competition well in advance of the submission deadline, we hope to generate many entries depicting Herndon citizens, young and old, enjoying activities and events throughout the year—summer, fall, winter, and spring,” said Robin Carroll, of ArtSpace Herndon. “This is a terrific opportunity for professional and amateur photographers to get exposure for their work.”

Photos submitted will be evaluated by a panel of jurors. Finalists will be invited to exhibit their photographs at ArtSpace Herndon’s Post Gallery in late summer or early fall 2012. From the finalists’ photos, the town of Herndon will make its selections for the 2013 “At Home in Herndon” town calendar.

Each year in December the calendar is distributed to more than 10,000 area residents and businesses. Photos printed in the calendar will feature photographers’ names.

In addition to having their photos printed in the town calendar, finalists will be eligible to receive the People’s Choice Award, chosen by patrons as the photograph that best depicts Herndon.

“The town is grateful to our arts organizations, ArtSpace and the Council for the Arts, for working with us again on this competition,” said Mayor Steve DeBenedittis.  “It serves not only to provide tremendous photography for our annual calendar but to bring the community together as well.”
