Viewfinder: Carousel Opens at Frying Pan Park
Children couldn't wait to ride the park's new carousel
Frying Pan Farm Park opened an antique Allan Herschell carousel at a ribbon cutting ceremony on Sunday, May 15.
Frying Pan Farm Park is a restored depression-era farm, and the 1918 carousel is a good fit for the farm. Tawny Hammond, the park's manager, said carousels were a source of entertainment during the early part of the 20th century.
Speakers at the event included Fairfax County Park Authority board Chairman Bill Bouie and Chairman Sharon Bulova and Hunter Mill district Supervisor Cathy Hudgins, both of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. All kept their comments short so children could get to the ride. Many stood in line for 20 minutes for a chance to ride the carousel.
