Town Accepting October Yard of the Month Nominations

October Yard of the Month nominations are due Sept. 15.

Early fall gardens are beginning to bloom and the Town of Herndon's Cultivating Community Initiative is accepting nominations for the October Yard of the Month Award. 

The Yard of the Month award gives town residents the chance to recognize their neighbors for contributing to the beautification of their neighborhood and the town. Herndon residents can nominate their neighbors' yards or their own for the award. Winners are recognized at a Town Council meeting and receive a gift certificate from Meadows Farms. 

The criteria for selection for the Yard of the Month award includes that: yards are generally free of trash and clutter; grass, trees, shrubs and plants are well cared for and are aesthetically pleasing; rocks, logs, short fences and other decorative elements are in good condition and neatly placed; and flowers and other vegetation are well landscaped and make good use of color.

Nominations for the October Yard of the Month award must be submitted by Sept. 15. Members of the town's Cultivating Community Initiative serve as judges for the Yard of the Month program. 

The Cultiavting Community Initiative is a group of Herndon residents who encourage beautifcation throughout the town's neighborhoods.
